I have served many band programs in several capacities including full year mentor/clinician, marching band clinician, concert band clinician, marching fundamentals training and leadership training. I am a member of the Texas Music Adjudicators Association on the Active Marching Band and Concert Band lists as well as a member of Phi Beta Mu Honorary Band Fraternity, Alpha Chapter.

While a music education degree should provide a strong foundation in pedagogy, conducting, and music theory, the first year as a band director is often a rude awakening. New directors soon discover that the day-to-day work involves a host of challenges—from complex budget negotiations to equipment logistics and parent management—for which they received little, if any, formal training.
